For over 25 years the Center for Literacy, Education and Employment (CLEE) has led innovative research and systems change efforts focused on improving literacy and supporting life-long learning. From its beginning, the Center has used a broad definition of literacy and looked beyond traditional conceptions of academic research and service. We are committed to supporting all individuals in gaining the knowledge and skills they need for individual growth, meaningful employment, economic independence, civic participation, and social justice.
Initially formed to support adult basic literacy initiatives, the Center’s work has grown to address improvement efforts for all forms of literacy and numeracy across the lifespan including health, economic and financial, workforce education and technology.
Areas of focus include:
Early Literacy (Birth through Pre-K)
Disability and Diversity Awareness
Adult English Language Learners
